Ingredients

  • 1 cup and half whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon anis seeds
  • 1 tablespoon fennel seeds
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 cup to 1 cup and 1/4 of warm water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Combine the flour, salt, fennel , anis and sesame seeds in a bowl.
  • Dilute the yeast in the warm water wit sugar and add it to the flour. Mix and knead for 5 minutes
  • Cut the dough into 12 pieces. Save two pieces for making butterflies for the rings.
  • Roll each piece into a log, about 6 inches long and form a ring around an empty roll of foil or parchment paper ( covered with parchment paper ) by pinching the bottom of the ring to close it. Leave 1 to 2 inches between the rings.
  • cut out as small rectangular pieces ... push using ur fingers to make butterflies .. decorate with dough to have a " butterfly tie " . Press them on the rings using some water . Brush the rings with eggwash, if you want.
  • Bake the roll of rings on a cookie sheet until golden, 20 to 25 minutes.
