Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 2 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 2 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
- 2 tsp. baking powder
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- Finely grated zest of 1 orange
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 3/4 cups milk
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 4 Tbs. (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- Maple syrup for serving
Instructions
- Preheat a waffle maker on medium-high heat according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, baking powder, salt and orange zest until well combined. Add the eggs, milk, vanilla and butter and whisk until smooth.
- Pour about 1/2 cup batter into each well of the waffle maker. Close the lid and cook until the waffles are golden and crispy, 4 to 6 minutes. Serve immediately with maple syrup. Makes 8 waffles.
