Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 2 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • Finely grated zest of 1 orange
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 4 Tbs. (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • Maple syrup for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat a waffle maker on medium-high heat according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, baking powder, salt and orange zest until well combined. Add the eggs, milk, vanilla and butter and whisk until smooth.
  • Pour about 1/2 cup batter into each well of the waffle maker. Close the lid and cook until the waffles are golden and crispy, 4 to 6 minutes. Serve immediately with maple syrup. Makes 8 waffles.
