Ingredients

  • 600g braising steak trimmed and cubed
  • 2tbsp flour
  • 1sp mustard powder
  • 5 carrots thickly sliced
  • 4 parsnips thickly sliced
  • 1 medium swede peeled and roughly cubed
  • 3 leeks roughly chopped
  • 800g peeled and halved potatoes
  • 100g peas
  • 3 sticks celery sliced
  • 1 400g can chopped tomatoes
  • strong beef stock to cover
  • bread to serve
  • worcestershire sauce to serve (optional)

Instructions

  • Put flour and mustard powder into a food bag or bowl and mix
  • Add the beef to the flour mix and toss untill the beef is coated well
  • Place the vegetables into a large pot not including the peas or tomatoes
  • Add the beef and the tomatoes and juice
  • Fill the pot with the stock until it comes level with the top of the ingredents already added
  • Turn the hob onto the lowest setting and place the pot on it
  • Gently cook for 7 hours stirring it once or twice to prevent it sticking
  • Serve in a bowl with bread and worcestershire sauce on the side
