Ingredients
- 250g (8oz) plain flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 125g (4oz) butter, plus extra for greasing
- 175g (6oz) caster sugar
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tsp vanilla essence

Instructions
- Lightly butter several baking tray. Sift the flour and baking powder into a bowl. Rub in the butter with your fingertips until the mixture resembles beadcrumbs.
- Mix in the sugar and chocolate chips. Add the beaten egg and vanilla essence, and stir to form a smooth dough.
- Shape the dough into a long cylinder and cut the cylinder into thin slices and place the biscuits on the baking trays. Bake in a preheated oven at 190oc (375oF, gas 5) for 10-12 minutes until golden.
